Introduction:
 
Technology is racing ahead almost too quickly to be believed.  The Internet has become a household word, we have drugs to remove wrinkles, the human genetic code has been mapped, and so on and so forth.  If all of these innovations are happening right now, what will tomorrow's world look like?  What technological breakthroughs or disasters are waiting just past the horizon?

 

Task:
 
Imagine you are a teenager living fifty years in the future.  Write a diary entry to yourself about your daily events that gives your reader a picture of what life is like in the year 2053.

Process:

1.    Use the resources below to get a feel for what the future might bring.

2.    Take notes as needed to help you write your story.

3.    Try to envision what daily life for a teen in 2053 might be like.

  • What technologies will be invented?
  • What will popular culture be like?
  • What will be the state of world affairs?
  • What challenges will be facing our world?
4.    Write a diary entry of a teen in 2053.  The entry should:
  • Discuss an entire day in the teen's life.
  • Focus on new technologies and developments in every day life.
  • Use information taken from our web resources.
  • Be broken into clearly organized paragraphs.
  • Be spell-checked and edited for punctuation and grammar.

When science fiction writers write, they try to look into the future and make predictions just like you.  And remember, iIn all likelihood you will be around in fifty years to see if the world works out the way that you think it will.  An amazing future is in store for you!
