Vampire Hunter's Survival Guide

RBHS Main / Mancoff Main / Sci-Fi Main

Introduction:

Jonathan Harker enters Count Dracula's castle unaware of what awaits him.  Imagine that you are a vampire hunter and you are preparing a survival guide to hand down  to your successors.  What tips, strategies, and information will you include? How will you help your descendants and followers survive an encounter with these creatures of the night?

Task:

Design a Vampire Hunter's Survival Guide.  This guide can be prepared personally for your descendants to use or prepared to be "sold" to customers;  it's your choice.  However, your guide must be based in "fact" and solid research.

Process:

1.    Use the resources below to learn about vampires.

2.    Your survival guide must cover the following topics:

  • According to myth, what IS a vampire? What powers and abilities does it have?
  • Are vampires different in different countries?  If so, how?
  • How can you KILL a vampire?  WHY do these methods work?
  • How can you PROTECT yourself from a vampire?  Why do these methods work?
  • Who are some "famous" historical vampires?  Create a field guide to alert your readers to these individuals.
  • What gear/equipment will a vampire hunter need?  Why will he need these items?

3.    Your survival guide may be laid out/designed as you wish, but it must:

  • Cover the information listed above.
  • Be broken down into clearly organized paragraphs.
  • Be spell-checked and edited for punctuation and grammar.

4.    Feel free to add graphics/images to your guide as you wish.

Conclusion:

Now that you have finished your survival guide, realize that Bram Stoker did not "invent" vampires.  Instead, he created a story that made use of a creature with rich roots in many mythologies and cultures.  One of the reasons Count Dracula is so terrifying is because he steps right out of history and legend!
