Introduction:

    As you have progressed in your readings, you have examined different periods in American history.  Each era presented unique challenges and opportunities.  Now that our course is drawing to a close, consider your own place in American history.  What makes this decade, the 00's, unique?  What obstacles stand in America's way?  What strengths does our country possess?  Where are we headed and what makes us stand out?

Task:

    Design a brief but informative web site that examines what makes our current decade of American culture unique.  The layout and exact content of the site are up to you, but it should contain both facts and your own observations as well as links to outside resources.

Process:

1.    Consider what makes America in the 00's unique.

2.    You may wish to consider some/all of these areas:

  • World events
  • National events
  • Sports/Music/Movies/Entertainment
  • Scientific advances
  • Everday living
  • Popular culture (fashion, commercials, etc.)
3.    Your site should include:
  • At least three of the above mentioned categories
  • Images and graphics where appropriate
  • Significant writing (around 1 page for each category)
  • Links to outside resources where appropriate
4.    Use the resources as examples of these types of pages.

Conclusion:

    Look back over your completed web site and get a taste of what our current period in American history represents.  Like every other era, it contains its positives and its negatives but it is unique and will never be repeated.  Hopefully this project, as well as our course in general, have given you a new appreciation through contemporary literature of what it means to have grown up American!
